CLEAN PLATE is the blog of Daily Grub creator and cook, Elle Lien. Elle grew up a corn fed midwestern girl in Nebraska. She came to a career in food later than most, working first as a writer and journalist in Atlanta, Chicago, New York and Charleston, South Carolina. Charleston’s vibrant food culture is based on a deep connection to its regional culinary roots and an abiding commitment to the idea that the best food comes from a collaboration between cook and grower. It was in this atmosphere that Elle began to hone her kitchen skills, developing relationships with local chefs and farmers and entertaining for many of them.
When she returned to Omaha it was only to be for a brief stay. That was four years ago. Last summer Elle launched CLEAN PLATE, an experimental raw food eatery, as part of the Empty Room project. This last April she opened Daily Grub, a whole food diner at the corner of 20th and Pierce. At Daily Grub you’ll find good food and fresh juice made daily from the produce of local farmers and gardeners. Elle hopes to feed you there soon!
